GL Gauge Lights

GENERAL/APPLICATION: The gauge light shall be Model GL, as manufactured by B&B Roadway, (888) 560-2060 and shall be designed for use as a gauge sign illumination light, per Coast Guard requirements.

FIXTURE (HPS Model): [Note: this paragraph applies to the High Pressure Sodium fixture ONLY.] The fixture housing body shall be of precision die cast aluminum with a durable powder coat finish. All components shall be corrosion resistant. Construction shall be rain-tight and shall be equipped with a retained gasket. Lens shall be thermal-tempered shock-resistant glass. A reflector shall be used to maximize light output. Fixture shall be designed with a hood to reduce glare. Fixture head rotation shall be adjustable and incorporate locking teeth and internal gasket for secure, leak-free positioning of the head. Hinge pins and external fasteners shall be of stainless steel.

Starting amps shall be 1.4A. Operating amps shall be .9A at 120VAC. Receptacle shall be standard medium base. A 2-position adjustable socket shall enable adjustment of beam spread. No tools shall be required for re-lamping.

LAMP (LED Model): [Note: this paragraph applies to the LED fixture ONLY.] Lamp shall be a 12V LED array. nominal life shall exceed 50,000 hours life. supply power shall be 12VDC, or, when specified as an option, a step transformer and rectifier shall be provided in the junction box to convert power from 120VAC supply.

ACCESSORY CABINET: A cast aluminum NEMA 4X accessory and electrical connection cabinet shall be included as part of the gauge light assembly. The cabinet shall have a hinged cover fitted with a gasket. Terminal blocks for convenient wiring shall be installed in the cabinet. All wiring shall terminate inside the accessory cabinet. The lamp shall be pre-wired to the terminal block. The cabinet shall provide for secure mounting to the gauge post using a square 4-bolt pattern.

AVAILABLE OPTIONS: 

12VAC Model: When specified, matched step-up and step-down transformers shall be included to permit running 12V lines between a 120V power source and the gauge light. One transformer shall be pre-wired and mounted inside the accessory cabinet to step power back up to 120V to supply the lamp. The second transformer shall be shipped separately for mounting in the field, as determined by the engineer. [Note: 120V HPS specifications apply above.]

Photo Control: When specified, a photocell shall be included, pre-wired, to automatically turn the gauge light on when ambient lighting approximates dusk and off when ambient lighting approximates dawn.

VL Vertical Lift Span Light

GENERAL: The vertical lift span light shall be Model VL, as manufactured by B&B Roadway, (888) 560-2060, or an approved equal meeting all specifications defined herein.

APPLICATIONS: The navigation light shall be designed for use as a marine signal light for marking vertical lift bridge spans, per Coast Guard requirements.

HOUSING and GENERAL CONSTRUCTION: The housing shall be of cast aluminum [option: cast silicon bronze]. Casting alloy used shall be suitable for marine environment. Construction shall be rain-tight and fully gasketed. The light assembly shall be designed for heavy duty, long life service. Design shall provide ready access for lamp service.

LENS: Lens shall be heat-resistant fresnel glass. Lens sections shall be 180 degrees red over 360 degrees green. Inside lens diameter shall measure approximately 7″ (175mm). Outside lens diameter shall measure approximately 8″ (205mm).

LAMP and RECEPTACLE: Lamps, one per section, shall be 100W [option: 60W], 120V, A-19 shape, clear. Lamps shall have a rated life of 20,000 hours and shall be of a rough service design with multiple filament support fingers. Medium base receptacles shall be rated for 250V, 660W and shall be porcelain with a nickel-plated brass shell to resist lamp freezing. [OPTION: Dual lamp option adds a second lamp and receptacle in one or both sections as specified.][OPTION: A single medium base, 120V, 100,000 hour LED lamp shall be provided in a color to match the lens.]

STEM: Lamp fixture head shall be suspended from the swivel on a 1 1/2″ schedule 40 pipe, 1.90″ O.D. (48mm) [option: 2″ schedule 40 pipe, 2.375″ O.D. (60mm)]. Pipe material shall be galvanized steel [option: stainless pipe used with bronze castings]. Standard dimension from center of swivel to focal plane of upper lens shall be 48″ (1219mm) [option: dimension as specified].

SWIVEL: The swivel design shall provide for all wiring to be completely contained inside the light assembly. Gaskets and o-rings shall be used to provide a weather-tight assembly. Swivel shall be of heavy-duty construction, cast of the same material as the fixture head. Spindle shall be of stainless steel.

AUTOMATIC LATCH: An automatic latch shall hold the light securely in normal operating and service positions. A firm pull on the service chain shall automatically release the latch, allowing the fixture to pivot. As the light is raised, latch shall automatically engage to hold light in the service position. Service position shall be 30 degrees from vertical [option: as specified]. Fixture assembly shall be dual-handed (i.e. light may be pulled up from either side).

MOUNTING: Base shall be cast of the same material as the fixture head (aluminum or silicon bronze). Light assembly shall mount via four 1/2″ diameter bolts through the base, provided by installer to suit installation.

SWITCHING CONTROL: Power shall be switched between red (bridge closed to maritime traffic) and green (bridge open) sections by a separate remote switch as part of the bridge controls.

SS-4 Swing Span Light

GENERAL: The segmented span light shall be Model SS4, as manufactured by B&B Roadway, (888) 560-2060, or an approved equal meeting all specifications defined herein.

APPLICATIONS: The navigation light shall be designed for use as a marine signal light for marking movable bridge swing spans where existing conditions preclude the use of the Model SS span light. (See Model BS for bascule spans or Model VL for vertical lift spans.)

HOUSING and GENERAL CONSTRUCTION: The housing shall be of cast aluminum [option: cast silicon bronze]. Casting alloy used shall be suitable for marine environment. Construction shall be rain-tight and fully gasketed. The light assembly shall be designed for heavy duty, long life service. Design shall provide ready access for lamp service.

ANTI-SWING BRAKE: The brake shall allow the light to pivot under its own weight as the bascule leaf rotates while preventing oscillation of the light during windy conditions.

MOUNTING: Base shall be cast of the same material as the fixture head (aluminum or silicon bronze). Light assembly shall mount via four 1/2″ diameter bolts through the base, provided by installer to suit installation.

SWITCHING CONTROL: Power shall be switched between red (bridge closed to maritime traffic) and green (bridge open) sections by a rotation sensing switch. [option: automatic transfer switch – see below]

PL-VR Vandal Resistant Pier Light

GENERAL: The pier light shall be Model PL-VR, as manufactured by B&B Roadway, (888) 560-2060, or an approved equal meeting all specifications defined herein.

APPLICATIONS: The navigation light shall be designed for use as a marine signal light for marking stationary piers and fenders, per Coast Guard requirements.

HOUSING and GENERAL CONSTRUCTION: The housing shall be of cast aluminum [option: cast silicon bronze]. Casting alloy used shall be suitable for marine environment. Construction shall be rain-tight and fully gasketed. The light assembly shall be designed for heavy duty, long life service. Design shall provide ready access for lamp service. In addition, the light shall incorporate vandal resistant features. External fasteners shall be tamper resistant. A lens guard formed of expanded metal shall provide protection from projectiles such as rocks or other thrown objects. Lens guard shall be painted black.

LENS: Lens shall be tempered fresnel glass. Nominal lens section shall be 180 degrees [option: 360 degrees]. Inside lens diameter shall measure approximately 7″ (175mm). Outside lens diameter shall measure approximately 8″ (205mm). Color shall be red [option: green or clear].

STEM: Lamp fixture head and base shall be mounted on a 1 1/2″ schedule 40 pipe, 1.90″ O.D. (48mm) [option: 2″ schedule 40 pipe, 2.375″ O.D. (60mm)]. Pipe material shall be galvanized steel [option: stainless pipe used with bronze castings]. Standard dimension from the light base to the focal plane of the lens shall be 15″ (356mm) [option: dimension as specified, greater than 15″ (356mm)].

MOUNTING: Base shall be cast of the same material as the fixture head (aluminum or silicon bronze). Light assembly shall mount via four 1/2″ diameter bolts through the base, provided by installer to suit installation.

** Junction Box: A cast junction box with gasketed access cover shall be provided when specified. Junction box shall be of the same material as the fixture assembly and shall match the navigation light base footprint. Orientation of junction box shall be capable of rotation in 90-degree increments. Junction box shall provide two conduit entries, threaded for ¾” standard pipe size [option: 1″ pipe size].

** Dual Lamps: When specified, a dual lamp arrangement shall be provided. An automatic transfer relay shall switch power to the backup lamp upon failure of the primary lamp. The relay shall provide a second independent contact for remote signaling of “primary lamp failure” status. Transfer relay components shall be contained in a cast box of the same material as the fixture head.

Indicator Light: An indicator light to signal “primary lamp failure” status shall be included, when specified, for remote installation. The indicator light shall have a 360-degree blue fresnel lens. A 27W lamp shall be included.

Rectifier: A rectifier shall be pre-wired as part of the light assembly, when specified. (Rectified power increases lamp life approximately 20%.)

Bird Spike Lid: When specified, a cone-shaped lid with integral bird spike shall be substituted for the standard flat lid.

PL-BM Bracket Mounted Pier Light

GENERAL: The bracket-mounted pier light shall be Model PL-BM, as manufactured by B&B Roadway, (888) 560-2060, or an approved equal meeting all specifications defined herein.

APPLICATIONS: The navigation light shall be designed for use as a marine signal light for marking stationary piers and fenders, per Coast Guard requirements, where the light must be mounted to a vertical surface.

HOUSING and GENERAL CONSTRUCTION: The housing shall be of cast aluminum [option: cast silicon bronze]. Casting alloy used shall be suitable for marine environment. Construction shall be rain-tight and fully gasketed. The light assembly shall be designed for heavy duty, long life service. Design shall provide ready access for lamp service.

LENS: Lens shall be heat-resistant fresnel glass. Nominal lens section shall be 180 degrees [option: 360 degrees]. Inside lens diameter shall measure approximately 7” (175mm). Outside lens diameter shall measure approximately 8” (205mm). Color shall be red [option: green or clear].

LAMP and RECEPTACLE: Lamp shall be 100W [option: 60W], 120V, A-19 shape, clear. Lamp shall have a rated life of 20,000 hours and shall be of a rough service design with multiple filament support fingers. Medium base receptacle shall be rated for 250V, 660W and shall be porcelain with a nickel-plated brass shell to resist lamp freezing. [OPTION: Dual lamp option adds a second lamp and receptacle.][OPTION: A single medium base, 120V, 100,000 hour LED lamp shall be provided in a color to match the lens.]
